A Comparison of Airsoft and Paintball

As everyone knows, airsoft and paintball are somewhat like rivals.  Paintball has their loyal players and airsoft has its own.  But which sport truly is the best?

Let’s start with the pros and cons of each sport.  In regards to airsoft, it is cheaper, more realistic, and can be more easily played than paintball.  Airsoft, being extremely realistic, is a collector hobby as well as a sport, making it just that much better.

One of the most notable cons of airsoft is the ability to cheat, although that will be investigated in further detail later.  Airsoft guns are a bit harder to work on and repair than paintball guns, and they can break more easily.

As for paintball, the markers are more customizable than airsoft guns.  During a game, it is also much more difficult to cheat, since when a player is hit, there is visual evidence of it.  Finally, paintball as a whole has more participants than airsoft, so it may be easier to find people to play with.

There are also a few myths out there about each sport.  One big question is which one hurts more?  Airsoft pellets give more of a stinging sensation, while paintball is generally painful.  This doesn’t necessarily mean one or the other hurts more, because it is all dependent upon where you get hit.

Another myth is that paintballs shoot further.  This is simply not true.  A quality airsoft gun can shoot at least 100-200 feet.  After about 110 feet accuracy starts to lessen, but they all shoot around the same distances.

The major argument for the paintball team is that airsoft is much easier to cheat in.  But as airsoft players and enthusiasts, we all know this.  Everyone that plays airsoft knows it is a sport that is based on honor.  If you cheat, there is no point to playing, and winning means nothing.

Based on observation and statistics, those who play airsoft are usually older and more mature than paintballers.  This is not always the case, and may just be because paintball is more well known to the younger crowd than airsoft.
