Finding Other Airsoft Players

When you are one of the only people in your town that plays airsoft, it can be a hard activity to maintain.  Admittedly the popularity of airsoft is not at the level of other sports, so naturally there will not be as many people playing it.  However, it is possible to have a lot of fun with only one other person, because the inherent variability and excitement of the game is always there no matter what.  Of course, it is always better when there are more people, especially since you can play different types of games, so it is important to take measures to try and find other players.

Achieving this was much more difficult twenty years ago before the Internet. Now, the immense resources of the electronic superhighway provide capabilities that could only have been imagined. One of the best websites at your disposal is Craigslist, which has an entire section for activities. You can post a listing where you describe your intention to find other people to play airsoft. It helps if you can mention that you already have others who are interested, so people feel compelled to some extent by the benefits of existing network effects (the more people involved in something, the more opportunities for meaningful interaction there are).

You can also look for other people’s listings, as it is likely that other airsoft players will be looking for additional individuals as well. When this is the case, it is even easier to grow your airsoft network than if you had to put up a listing yourself. And if you are really trying to build a team, then posting multiple listings at different times of the day is extremely useful. This is because people often have different routines and check Craigslist at different times, so by posting variably and consistently, you hit a wider cross-section of the airsoft population in your area.

Don’t be above taking traditional measures as well. Posting flyers around your neighborhood is a great way to get people to call or email you about potentially playing. Some people have even gone door-to-door knocking, but given the low likelihood that any individual house will have airsoft players in it, you are probably best taking shotgun approaches to finding other airsoft players.
