Act of Valor Free Pre-Screening
Yesterday I got to see a free early screening of Act of Valor, and it was a pretty incredible movie. Admittedly the dialogue was kind of underdeveloped in some places, and the plot development could have been more effective, but it’s hard to complain. This movie had real U.S. Navy SEALs, making it the most realistic war movie ever produced in history. The mere fact they were involved isn’t what makes that the case. The SEALs ensured that all the action scenes were realistic, and the action scenes were how real SEALs would fight. In addition, live fire rounds and actual military equipment were used, and you can’t get any better than that.
I definitely haven’t felt as much tension or excitement in a theater before. Also, be warned that what follows are spoilers, so if you don’t want to know what happens stop reading. The two most exciting parts were when the SEALs drove a car into a lake while escaping the bad guys, and they were about to be destroyed by about 30 guys. Then, two boats (the well-known ones from the commercials) come in at just the right moment and destroy the pursuing vehicles in a flurry of high-powered rounds. The other intense part was the funeral for one of the SEALs and the reading of the letter he left to his wife and daughter. It sounds cliche but because everything was so based in realism, there was a lot of weight to it.
Remember that in airsoft, this is what we are aiming to recreate. While we will never achieve such a high level of realism, nor do we want to, it is a tribute in itself to get as close as we can.
